Approach and discography
Chapter 7 counts 485 recordings between 1938 and 1971. The total includes small-group recordings and two bandoneón duos with Astor Piazzolla as well as the orchestra's own sides. The chapter divides the orchestra's history into a dance era (1937–1949), a transition era (1950–1956) and a concert era (1957–1975), and says the book concentrates on 1938–1949. The discography in Appendix B gives an index number, a recording date and, where known, the arranger, with entries set under pianist headings.
