How Tangopedia works

Every fact on Tangopedia is cited. Here is how a fact gets onto a page, what happens when sources disagree, how often each kind of fact is right, and how to correct or add one.

Every fact is cited

Each fact carries its source. Tap the small number beside it to see who says so, when it was read, how many independent sources agree, and the batch it was published in, which can be taken back as a whole.

When sources disagree

When sources give different answers, a page does not quietly pick one. An answer is shown as agreed only when it clearly leads the next and at least two independent sources back it. Otherwise the page says the sources disagree and shows every answer with its own sources.

Checked and automatic facts

Some facts were checked by a person. Many came in automatically: read from a cited source, researched by an agent, or counted from our own catalogue of recordings and videos. Automatic facts are published, marked as such, and easy to correct. To learn how often each kind is right, people check a random sample by hand.

Report, correct, add

Every source card has Suggest a correction. You can report a mistake without knowing the right answer, or say what is right and where it says so. Contributing takes an account, so every change has an author, and a correction becomes a fact under the same rules as any other.

For agents and programs

Tangopedia can be read without an account, by people and by machines. Every answer carries its source and batch.
