Héctor Pacheco was a tango singer, born on 15 March 1918. [5] He died in Buenos Aires on 28 July 2003. [2]
His documented career began in 1947, when he joined Alfredo Attadía's orchestra on Radio El Mundo and at the Chantecler. [1] With Attadía he recorded Milonga para Gardel, Descamisado and Peronista on 23 December 1948, and M.A.D.A.N. issued these recordings. [2] A 1948 calendar also lists him singing with Attadía on 20 April, 30 April and 23 December of that year. [4]
In 1952 Osvaldo Fresedo hired him after a test at Rendez Vous on Maipú. [2] With Fresedo he recorded Vida mía for Odeon on 21 September 1952. One source describes Perdóname, dated 3 December 1954, as his latest catalogued recording with Fresedo. [3] A recording catalogue lists fourteen recordings sung by Pacheco between June 1951 and August 1955, on the Columbia and Odeon labels. Sources differ on the date of his last recording (see Recordings). [3]
In 1954 he appeared in Soy del tiempo de Gardel, which was never released. [1] In 1957 he left Fresedo and became a soloist on Radio El Mundo with Carlos García's orchestra. [1]
With Alfredo Attadía (1947–1948)
Pacheco joined Alfredo Attadía's orchestra in 1947. He performed with it on Radio El Mundo and at the Chantecler. [1]
On 23 December 1948 he recorded three numbers with Attadía: Milonga para Gardel, Descamisado and Peronista. M.A.D.A.N. issued these recordings. [2] A 1948 tango calendar lists three dates for Pacheco with the Attadía orchestra: 20 April, 30 April and 23 December 1948. [4] The December date matches the recording date given for the three titles above. [2][4]
With Osvaldo Fresedo (1952–1957)
In 1952 Osvaldo Fresedo hired Pacheco after a test held at Rendez Vous on Maipú. [2] On 21 September 1952 he recorded Vida mía with Fresedo for the Odeon label. [3]
One source describes Perdóname, recorded on 3 December 1954, as the latest catalogued recording he made with Fresedo. [3] Pacheco stayed with Fresedo until 1957. [1]
Soy del tiempo de Gardel (1954)
In 1954 Pacheco appeared in Soy del tiempo de Gardel, which was never released. [1]
Later career and death
After leaving Fresedo in 1957, Pacheco worked as a soloist on Radio El Mundo, accompanied by Carlos García's orchestra. [1]
He died in Buenos Aires on 28 July 2003. [2]
Recordings
A recording catalogue lists fourteen recordings sung by Pacheco. Ten are on Columbia and four on Odeon. The catalogue entries give the label and date. They do not name the orchestra or the titles.
Columbia recordings listed in the catalogue:
- 12 June 1951
- 13 May 1952
- 16 May 1952
- 18 July 1952
- 21 August 1952
- 18 September 1952 (two recordings)
- 16 October 1952 (three recordings)
Odeon recordings listed in the catalogue:
- 21 November 1952
- 23 December 1953
- 3 December 1954
- 6 August 1955
The earliest catalogue entry, dated 12 June 1951, comes before the 1952 date given for his hiring by Fresedo. The catalogue does not say which orchestra accompanied him on it. [2] One source dates Vida mía with Fresedo to 21 September 1952 on Odeon. [3] The catalogue lists his recordings from that period under Columbia until October 1952. Its Odeon entries begin on 21 November 1952.
Sources differ on his last recording. One source describes Perdóname (3 December 1954) as his latest catalogued Fresedo recording. [3] The catalogue lists an Odeon recording on that same date and a later Odeon recording dated 6 August 1955. It does not name the orchestra for either.
