Orchestra
Tania
Tania was a tango performer in Buenos Aires who arrived there with a Spanish troupe in the mid-1920s, sang on radio from the late 1920s, recorded with Osvaldo Fresedo's orchestra from 1930 and later sang with Mariano Mores's orchestra [1][2]. She opened her own venue, Cambalache, in 1963 and died in Buenos Aires on 17 February 1999 [2].
Tania is catalogued here as an orchestra entry, but the dossier material describes the career of a single performer, referred to as "she" [1][2]. She arrived in Buenos Aires with a Spanish troupe, with the year given as either 1924 or 1925 [1].
Around 1927 she sang at the Folies Bergère on Cerrito street, where she met Enrique Santos Discépolo [1]. From about 1928 she sang on Radio Prieto, then on Radio París, Radio Belgrano and other stations [2].
Her first recordings, from around 1930, were made with Osvaldo Fresedo's orchestra [2]. In 1946 she sang with Mariano Mores's orchestra and on Radio El Mundo [2]. She opened her own venue, Cambalache, in 1963, and died in Buenos Aires on 17 February 1999 [2].
