Sondor
Uruguay's oldest record label, begun in Montevideo around 1938 as Son d'Or by Enrique José Abal Salvo.[1]
Enrique José Abal Salvo began making recordings for private customers in Montevideo around 1938 under the name Son d'Or ("golden sound"); by 1941 it was the first company in Uruguay to press records industrially.[1] It began commercial issues in 1944, made South America's first 45 rpm record in 1954, and around 1960 Son d'Or became Sondor.[1]
Tango came to Montevideo to record: Osvaldo Pugliese, Roberto Goyeneche, Leopoldo Federico and Osmar Maderna recorded at Estudios Sondor, as did Donato Racciatti, Romeo Gavioli and Miguel Villasboas.[1]
