Contents
A two-chapter prologue covers D'Arienzo's first group (1928–1930) and his film work. Part 1 covers the orchestra of 1935–1940 and Part 2 the D'Arienzo–Varela orchestra (1940–1950). Part 3, Bandoneon supreme, runs from 1950 through the 1960s and ends with D'Arienzo in ten tangos and a milonga. Part 4, The man & the myth, covers his early years and his views on tango. The appendices cover D'Arienzo on disc, a discography and the orchestra formations, followed by a bibliography, a filmography, a glossary, a note on terminology and structure, and an index of titles.

Discography
Appendix B opens with the Electra recordings of 1928–1930, made by a group built around the singer Carlos Dante. The orchestra's RCA-Victor recordings (1935–1975) follow, set out by pianist for 1935–1940, by arranger for the D'Arienzo–Varela years, and under the bandoneón-section arrangers for 1950–1975. The book counts 989 orchestra recordings, as far as can be determined, and with the 44 earlier recordings gives a total of 1,033. It notes that not all of them were released and that some were printed only in Japan.
