Singer
Carlos Yanel
Carlos Yanel was a tango singer who joined pianist José Sala's orchestra in 1953 and made his first recording, "Oración rante", with Sala for CBS-Columbia in 1954. [1][2] He later recorded with the orchestras of Alfredo Gobbi and Héctor Varela, released LPs under the name Siro San Román, and received the Gobbi de Oro from the Academia Nacional del Tango in 2016. [1][2][3]
Carlos Yanel was a singer whose documented career ran from the early 1950s into the 2010s. [1][3] In 1953 pianist José Sala hired him, and he shared the vocal duties in Sala's orchestra with Alfredo Belusi. [1] On 10 April 1954 he made his first recording, "Oración rante", with José Sala for the CBS-Columbia label. [2]
Over the following years he recorded with the orchestras of Alfredo Gobbi and Héctor Varela, and he appeared on radio and in Buenos Aires venues. [1][2] He also performed outside Buenos Aires, singing at carnival dances in Rosario in 1959. [1] In 1962, using the name Siro San Román, he released his first LP. [3] His later recordings include a tango album with Osvaldo Montes in 1987 and an album with Orquesta Color Tango in 2005. [1][2] In 2016 the Academia Nacional del Tango awarded him the Gobbi de Oro. [3]
Career with José Sala
Yanel's first documented professional engagement came in 1953, when pianist José Sala hired him as a singer. [1] In Sala's orchestra he shared the vocals with Alfredo Belusi. [1]
On 10 April 1954 Yanel made his first recording, "Oración rante", with José Sala for CBS-Columbia. [2]
Alfredo Gobbi and Héctor Varela
On 8 October 1957 Yanel recorded "Reflexionemos" with Alfredo Gobbi's orchestra. [2] That side was the orchestra's last record for RCA Victor. [2] A public recording catalogue lists a recording sung by Yanel under the same date, 8 October 1957.
In 1958 Yanel recorded three titles with Héctor Varela's orchestra. [1] That year he also appeared on the Glostora Tango Club and performed at Maipú Pigall. [1] The same catalogue lists a further recording sung by Yanel dated 30 July 1958. The catalogue entry does not state the title or the orchestra for that recording.
Rosario and work as Siro San Román
In 1959 Yanel sang at the carnival dances of Club Nueva Era in Rosario with José Corna's orchestra. [1]
In 1962, under the name Siro San Román, he released his first LP, *Inolvidable*, on the Music Hall label. [3]
Later recordings and recognition
In 1987 Yanel recorded the tango album *Déjame hablarte* with Osvaldo Montes for the Almalí label. [2] In 2005 he recorded an album with Orquesta Color Tango. [1]
In 2016 the Academia Nacional del Tango awarded him the Gobbi de Oro. [3]
