Alcides Rossi

Alcides Rossi was a double bassist, born in 1927, who played in Aníbal Troilo's orchestra from 1959 and in Osvaldo Pugliese's orchestra, where he took over his father's chair [1][5]. In March 1968 he co-founded the Sexteto Tango [1].

Alcides Rossi was a tango double bassist [1]. One source gives his birth date as 1 January 1927 [5]. In 1959 he replaced Kicho Díaz as double bassist of Aníbal Troilo's orchestra [1].

In 1960 he took over his father's chair in Osvaldo Pugliese's orchestra, debuting with it in Rosario [1]. He toured Japan with Pugliese in 1965 and took part in recordings with the orchestra in 1965 and 1966 [1]. Sources differ on the dates of his time with Pugliese: one places his arrival in 1960, while another lists him in the orchestra from 1970 to 1978 [1][4].

In March 1968 Rossi co-founded the Sexteto Tango [1]. In 1998 he was interviewed at his home in Bernal [2], and in 2007 a documentary about him and his family, Alcides y Aniceto. Los Rossi, un siglo de Tango, was premiered [3].
