Notes3

Opened in April 1906 by the actor Jerónimo Podestá as the Teatro Nacional on Corrientes. A 1936 decree reserved the word "nacional" for official bodies, so the house was renamed; the article gives the name Teatro El Nacional from 1940.Single source

Pascual Carcavallo bought the house in 1910 and made it a home of the creole sainete, which he called the "catedral del género chico criollo". Carlos Gardel sang there for the last time in Buenos Aires in 1933.Single source

A fire destroyed the auditorium on 22 July 1982 during a revue; only the façade survived. The theatre reopened on 1 March 2000.Single source
