Parlophone
Carl Lindström's German label, with a British branch from 1923; in our catalogue it is above all the label that brought Francisco Canaro to British and French buyers.[1][2]
Parlophone was founded in Germany in 1896 by the Carl Lindström Company as Parlophon; its British branch opened in 1923.[1] The Columbia Graphophone Company bought it in 1926 and merged with the Gramophone Company in 1931 to form EMI.[1]
In our catalogue Parlophone issued tango from 1925 to 1957, mostly in Britain and France. Its most frequent tango name is Francisco Canaro (1927–1948); beside him are European dance orchestras such as Robert Renard's and Victor Silvester's, and Mercedes Simone in 1946–1947.[2]
