Arturo Penón
Arturo Penón was a tango bandoneon player and composer, born on 31 January 1927, who worked in the orchestras of Edgardo Donato, Julio De Caro and Juan Canaro before spending more than two decades in Osvaldo Pugliese's orchestra [1][4][5]. He became Pugliese's first bandoneon in 1968, and Pugliese premiered and recorded his tango Bien de abajo, with words by Héctor Negro [1][2][6].
Arturo Penón was born on 31 January 1927 [5]. He began his career in 1944 in the orchestras of Di Adamo-Flores, Manuel Buzón and Edgardo Donato [1]. In 1951 he joined Julio De Caro's orchestra, recording for Odeon and performing on Radio El Mundo [1].
In 1954 he toured Japan with Juan Canaro's orchestra, a tour described as the first tango tour there [1]. He later joined the orchestra of Osvaldo Pugliese as fourth bandoneon and became its first bandoneon in 1968 [1][4]. Sources differ on the year he joined Pugliese: one gives 1960 and another gives 1961 [1][4].
Penón is credited as the composer of the tango Bien de abajo [6]. Pugliese premiered and recorded it in 1967, with words by Héctor Negro [2]. Penón left Pugliese's orchestra in Paris in 1984, at the end of a series of concerts in France [1]. He died at his home in Bernal on 10 January 2000 [1].

With Osvaldo Pugliese
Penón joined Osvaldo Pugliese's orchestra as its fourth bandoneon, replacing Ismael Spitalnik [1]. Sources differ on the date: one biography places his arrival in 1960, while another source dates his membership in the orchestra from 1961 to 1984 [1][4].
In 1968, after the founders of Sexteto Tango left Pugliese's orchestra, Penón became its first bandoneon [1].
In 1978 Penón brought Roberto Álvarez into Pugliese's orchestra as fourth bandoneon [3].
