Eduardo Pareja

Eduardo Pareja, called "Parejita" in the titles of several video sources, is a tango dancer born on 6 April 1930 [1][2]. He began dancing at 15 at a men-only práctica and later became known as a veteran milonguero honoured at several milongas [2][3][5][6].

Eduardo Pareja is a tango dancer whose date of birth is recorded as 6 April 1930 [1]. Several video sources about him use the nickname "Parejita" in their titles [2][4][7][8].

According to a homage video, he started dancing at the age of 15 at a men-only práctica, where he met the dancers known as Petróleo and Finito [2]. The same source states that he began going to the milongas around 1947 [2].

In 2007 the newspaper La Nación profiled him at age 77 as one of the veteran milongueros of the milonga scene, alongside El Chino Perico, El Flaco Dany, Osvaldo and Coca [3]. From 2012 onward he was the subject of several homages, including one at Salón Canning marking 67 years in tango [2]. He was still dancing in public in March 2023 [8].

Early years

Eduardo Pareja's birth date is given as 6 April 1930 [1]. A video recording his 90th birthday dates that occasion to 6 April 2020, which agrees with this date [7].

He started dancing at 15, around 1945, at a men-only práctica [2]. At this práctica he met Petróleo and Finito [2]. Around 1947 he began going to the milongas [2].

Recognition and homages

In 2007 La Nación profiled Pareja at 77 in an article titled "Los reyes de la noche en las milongas porteñas" [3]. The article named him as one of a group of veteran milongueros, together with El Chino Perico, El Flaco Dany, Osvaldo and Coca [3].

In 2012 he was honoured at Salón Canning for 67 years in tango, an event recorded in a video titled "Homenaje a Eduardo Pareja 'Parejita' (67 años con el tango)" [2]. On 14 July 2012 he was interviewed by Pepa Palazón for the series "Tengo una pregunta para vos" [4].

In October 2013 a homage was held for him at the Milonga de Arquitectura, with couples dancing in his honour [5]. A video from that event shows Gabriel Di Prinzio and Hebe Martínez dancing in the homage [5].

On 2 April 2017 he received a homage at the milonga Viva la Pepa!, with Laura Grandi and other couples taking part [6]. The same source states that on 7 April 2017 he danced with María Nieves at his Friday práctica [6].

His 90th birthday on 6 April 2020 was marked by a video of greetings and tangos [7].

Sources differ slightly on his age at this performance [1][8]. The video title describes him as 93 years old [8]. A birth date of 6 April 1930 would make him 92 on 10 March 2023 [1][7].
