Dancer

Horacio Pebete Godoy

Horacio "Pebete" Godoy is a tango dancer, DJ, teacher and organiser who co-founded the Buenos Aires milonga La Viruta in Palermo in 1994 with Cecilia Troncoso [1][2]. He has taught and toured with a series of partners, most recently Maricel Giacomini, and in 2024 he announced a three-day marathon for La Viruta's 30th anniversary [7][8].

Horacio Godoy, known as "Pebete", is a dancer whose career has combined work as a DJ, milonga organiser and teacher [1][4]. Source titles also give his name as Horacio 'P.B.T' Godoy and as Horacio Godoy 'El Pebete' [4][5].

According to an interview first published in La Milonga Argentina and reprinted on a blog, he began as a DJ at Michelángelo and then took classes at Miguel Ángel Zotto's school; the dossier dates this to 1991 [1]. In 1994 he co-founded La Viruta in Palermo with Cecilia Troncoso, and the business was registered as the company Godoy Troncoso SRL [2]. Luis Solanas later joined the venture [2].

His teaching has included advanced tango and milonga classes at La Viruta and classes at Mora Godoy's institute [4]. He has given interviews on his career, on musicality and on teaching, and a 2025 listing describes him teaching and touring with Maricel Giacomini in Europe and the United States [5][6][8]. A video catalogue lists him with a number of dance partners [9].

Early career

According to the interview reprinted on the Tangos al bardo blog, Godoy started out as a DJ at Michelángelo [1]. He then took classes at Miguel Ángel Zotto's school [1]. The dossier places the start of this period in 1991 [1].

The same source calls him a DJ, organiser and dancer, which reflects the different roles he held in the milonga scene [1].

La Viruta

In 1994 Godoy co-founded the milonga La Viruta with Cecilia Troncoso in Palermo, Buenos Aires [2]. The business was registered as the company Godoy Troncoso SRL, and Luis Solanas later joined it [2].

In 1997 La Viruta moved to Armenia 1366, into the basement of the Armenian cultural centre [2].

The earliest recorded footage of Godoy in a video catalogue dates from 2006 and shows him dancing with Cecilia García at La Viruta [3]. In 2024 La Viruta turned 30, and Godoy announced a three-day marathon to mark the anniversary [7].

Teaching and touring

A 2008 blog post records that Godoy taught advanced tango and milonga at La Viruta with Elina Ruiz and Cecilia García [4]. The same source records that he also gave classes at Mora Godoy's institute [4].

In a 2014 interview in La Milonga Argentina he described touring Europe, the United States, Mexico and Ecuador that year [1].

In 2025 he was teaching and touring with Maricel Giacomini [8]. Their engagements that year included Mantova, Italy, in February and a United States tour that included Los Angeles from late August into September [8]. The pair were booked to teach at La Viruta Berlin from 5 to 8 November 2026, which indicates that his teaching activity was continuing [8].

Dance partners

A video catalogue lists Godoy as having danced with the following partners [9]: - Cecilia Berra - Noelia Hurtado - Magdalena Gutiérrez - Cecilia Garcia - Corina Herrera - Laura Zaracho - Erna Dolcet - Karina Colmeiro - Pepa Palazon - Moira Castellano - Eladia Cordoba - Dana Frigoli - Maricel Giacomini - Alejandra Mantinan - Vanesa Villalba - Milena Plebs - Kat Gorsuch

The catalogue gives no dates or other details for these partnerships [9]. Other sources document his work with Cecilia García at La Viruta in 2006 and 2008, with Cecilia Berra in 2021, and with Maricel Giacomini in 2025 and 2026 [3][4][6][8].

Interviews and media

On 11 August 2012 Godoy took part in a public interview with Pepa Palazón in the series 'Tengo una pregunta para vos' [5]. The interview was published on YouTube by Junando Milongas [5].

In 2014 La Milonga Argentina interviewed him about his career and touring, and the Tangos al bardo blog reprinted the piece under the title 'Artista es aquel que logra transmitir diferentes emociones' [1].

In 2021 Revista El Inconsciente published an interview with Godoy and Cecilia Berra, titled 'Los colores del tango', which covered musicality and teaching [6]. In 2024 Infobae and Radio Continental reported on La Viruta, including its founding and its 30th anniversary [2][7].
