Corina Herrera

Corina Herrera (born 1987, Buenos Aires) is an Argentine tango dancer and teacher active since childhood who performs and teaches internationally in both leader and follower roles. She has partnered with dancers including Federico Naveira, Octavio Fernández, and Inés Muzzopappa, appearing at festivals such as tanGOTOistanbul, Belgrade Tango Encuentro, and others while emphasizing technique, musicality, and close embrace.[1][2]

Corina Herrera was born in 1987 in Buenos Aires. She began dancing tango at age nine, initially drawn to the firuletes and expressive clothing of the dance as a form of entertainment. By age thirteen she was attending milongas, and at fourteen she served as a teaching assistant to several established instructors and began giving private lessons. At sixteen she formed a partnership with Rodrigo Palacios and started performing in Buenos Aires, including appearances at La Viruta (notably a “Noche de los Jóvenes” CITA event) and Salon Canning, where the couple was recognized as an Outstanding Young Couple in 2003. Teachers associated with her early formation include figures such as Julio Balmaceda and Corina De La Rosa, among others in the Buenos Aires milonga tradition.[1]

By her early twenties she was touring Europe and other regions. On 20 November 2007 she danced with Federico Naveira at Práctica X in Buenos Aires (Anchorena 641), following a seminar by Raúl Masciocchi and Karina Colmeiro. She has also performed and taught with other partners listed in dance directories and festival contexts, including Mariela Sametband, Moira Castellano, Martín Chili, Leonardo Pankow, Diego Valero, and Seba Fernandez, though specific performance dates for each are not uniformly documented in the sources opened. In approximately 2009 she is reported to have joined Miguel Ángel Zotto’s Tango X2 company alongside Octavio Fernández and appeared at the Latino Americando festival in Milan; primary contemporary accounts of that exact engagement were not located in the pages retrieved for this article, though later collaborations with Fernández are extensively documented.[1][2][3]

Herrera has maintained a long association with Octavio Fernández, appearing together at numerous international festivals. Documented performances include the 2023 Philadelphia Tango Festival, the 2024 tanGOTOistanbul (16th edition, multiple dances including milonga and traditional tango), Belgrade Tango Encuentro 2024 (including “El Olivo” and “El Tango Es Azul”), Southern California Tango Championship events in 2024 and 2025, and others. Videos from these events show the pair in traditional repertoire such as pieces associated with D’Arienzo, Donato, Tanturi, and milongas. She has also performed with Giampiero Galdi at the 2026 tanGOTOistanbul (18th edition), including “El Latigo” (D’Arienzo) and “Torrente” (Troilo).[4][5]

Since 2015 she has worked with Inés Muzzopappa; the partnership was formally established in 2019. Together they teach and perform internationally, focusing on both leader and follower roles, high-level technique, musicality, close embrace, and improvisation. They have been described as figures in newer pedagogical and artistic approaches that reconsider role distribution while remaining rooted in milonga tradition. Herrera is noted for being accomplished in both roles and for an organic quality in her dancing. She continues to travel for festivals and workshops, with recent or scheduled appearances including tanGOTOistanbul and other events into 2026.[1][6]

Public career information emphasizes her early start, continuous teaching (approximately 23 years by the mid-2020s), international touring from her early twenties, and sustained presence in both social and stage contexts. Exact personal details beyond birth year and place, and some early partnership timelines, remain limited to the public sources consulted.

Early life and first performances

Born in Buenos Aires in 1987, Herrera began tango at age nine. She attended milongas by thirteen, assisted teachers by fourteen, and started private lessons. At sixteen she partnered with Rodrigo Palacios for Buenos Aires performances at La Viruta and Salon Canning (Outstanding Young Couple recognition in 2003). Early teachers included Julio Balmaceda and Corina De La Rosa among others in the local tradition.[1]

Partners and major collaborations

Documented partners include Federico Naveira (Práctica X, 20 November 2007), Octavio Fernández (multiple festivals 2023–2025 including Philadelphia, tanGOTOistanbul 2024, Belgrade Tango Encuentro 2024, Southern California events), and Inés Muzzopappa (working together since 2015, formal partnership 2019; current teaching and performance). Other partners referenced in dance contexts are Mariela Sametband, Moira Castellano, Martín Chili, Leonardo Pankow, Diego Valero, and Seba Fernandez. She has also appeared with Giampiero Galdi. A 2009 association with Zotto’s Tango X2 and Octavio Fernández at Latino Americando in Milan is noted in secondary leads but not fully verified in primary pages opened.[1][2][3][4]

Style and teaching

Herrera is described as accomplished in both leader and follower roles, with emphasis on high-level technique, musicality, close embrace, and improvisation. Teaching materials and festival profiles highlight organic movement, footwork, upper-body disassociation, and pivots. She and Muzzopappa are positioned within contemporary discussions of role flexibility while drawing from traditional milonga practice. She has taught and performed worldwide for more than two decades.[1][6]

Festivals and recent activity

Performances are documented at tanGOTOistanbul (2024 with Fernández; 2026 with Galdi), Belgrade Tango Encuentro 2024, Philadelphia Tango Festival 2023, Southern California Tango Championship (2024–2025), and earlier Práctica X and Buenos Aires venues. She continues international workshop and performance work into the mid-2020s.[4][5]
