Virgilio Expósito

Virgilio Expósito was born on 3 May 1924 ^[5]. He wrote his first tango, Rodando, with Homero at their parents' house in Zárate, and he composed Maquillaje at the age of fourteen ^[1].

His compositions of the 1940s included Farol, set to Homero's words, in 1943, and Naranjo en flor and Oro falso in 1944 ^[2][3]. He settled in Buenos Aires in 1945 and became director of the Radio Splendid orchestra in 1947 ^[1].

In 1995 he received a Konex diploma as one of the five best tango authors of the decade ^[1]. He died in Buenos Aires on 25 October 1997 ^[4].

History

Expósito's earliest documented tango work was dated to 1938, when he wrote Rodando with Homero at their parents' house in Zárate ^[1]. At fourteen he also composed Maquillaje ^[1].

In 1945 he settled in Buenos Aires ^[1]. Two years later, in 1947, he became director of the Radio Splendid orchestra ^[1].

Later recognition came in 1995, when he received a Konex diploma naming him one of the five best tango authors of the decade ^[1]. He died in Buenos Aires on 25 October 1997 ^[4].
