Puppi Castello

Puppi Castello was a tango dancer whose date of birth is given as 18 December 1935 ^[6][7]. Sources spell his name in different ways, including Puppy, Pupy and Pupi, and one source gives his full name as Ernesto Norberto 'Pupi' Castello ^[1][3][4][5].

In the early 1950s he was a local favourite in Boulogne ^[1]. In later decades he appeared in stage productions, among them Marisa Galindo's show 'La Milonga' at Teatro Regio in 1991 and 'Danza Maligna' at the Théâtre de Chaillot in Paris in 2003 ^[2][3]. He was interviewed for Clarín's Viva magazine in 2005 and died in Buenos Aires in July 2007 ^[4][5].

His recorded dance partners include Graciela González and Geraldine Rojas ^[7].

Early years

Castello was born on 18 December 1935 ^[6]. Around the age of 18, in about 1953, he was described as a local favourite in Boulogne, although he was not yet known in Villa Urquiza ^[1].

Stage career

In 1991 Castello danced with Graciela González in 'La Milonga', a show by Marisa Galindo, at Teatro Regio ^[2].

In 2003 he appeared in 'Danza Maligna' at the Théâtre de Chaillot in Paris ^[3]. The production was described as a show of milongueros and professionals ^[3].

Later years and death

In 2005 Castello was interviewed by Irene Amuchástegui for Viva, the magazine of the newspaper Clarín ^[4].

He died in Buenos Aires in July 2007, with a date of 21 July 2007 recorded ^[5]. Graciela González was at his bedside ^[5]. While in hospital, he had been teaching tango to the staff ^[5].
