Maria la Turca

Maria la Turca is a tango dancer, born in 1952, who began dancing as a child under her father's instruction [1][4]. She partnered with Jorge Dispari, whom she met at Club Sin Rumbo in Villa Urquiza in 1982, and taught tango seminars with him in Argentina and Spain [1][3].

Maria la Turca is a tango dancer born in 1952 [4]. A profile published in the magazine Tangodanza reports that she started dancing at the age of seven, taught by her father, and that she won a tango contest with him at the age of eight [1]. The same profile appears under a title that gives her name as "Marita 'la Turca'", so sources differ on the form of her name [1].

She is recorded as the dance partner of Jorge Dispari . According to the Tangodanza profile, the two met at Club Sin Rumbo in the Villa Urquiza neighbourhood in 1982 [1]. Later reports describe the couple choreographing a film, teaching a charity seminar in Bahía Blanca, and leading an intensive Villa Urquiza-style salón seminar in Ibiza [2][3].

Early life and training

Maria la Turca was born in 1952 [4]. According to the Tangodanza profile, she began dancing in 1959, at the age of seven, with her father as her teacher [1]. At eight she won a tango contest dancing with him [1].

In 1979, the profile reports, she began learning from "El Turco" José, whom she describes as their most important teacher [1]. The profile associates this teacher with the period up to 2010 [1].

Partnership with Jorge Dispari

Maria la Turca is listed as the partner of the dancer Jorge Dispari . The Tangodanza profile states that she met Dispari at Club Sin Rumbo in Villa Urquiza in 1982 [1].

In 2006 the Bahía Blanca newspaper La Nueva reported that the couple had choreographed Robert Duvall's film Assassination Tango [2]. The same report states that they taught a charity seminar in Bahía Blanca [2].

Teaching

In 2010 Maria la Turca and Dispari led an intensive seminar in Ibiza devoted to tango de salón in the Villa Urquiza style, announced as the second such seminar on the island [3].

In 2011 she was profiled in Tangodanza, which also reports that she taught a seminar in Bahía Blanca with Dispari [1]. This followed the charity seminar the couple had given in the same city, as reported in 2006 [2].

Her principal recorded dance partner is Jorge Dispari . The two are linked with the dance culture of Villa Urquiza in Buenos Aires, including Club Sin Rumbo and the Villa Urquiza salón style they taught abroad [1][3].
