Mauricio Mise

Mauricio Mise (born 14 August 1912, died 21 July 1983) was an Argentine tango musician who led the violin section of José Basso's orchestra from 1947 [1][5]. He also played with Cayetano Puglisi, Francisco Canaro, Pedro Laurenz, Leopoldo Federico and the Sexteto Mayor [1][3][4].

Mauricio Mise was born on 14 August 1912 [5]. He began performing young: in 1927, at fifteen, he played in Cayetano Puglisi's sextet at the Paramount cinema and recorded for Victor [1].

Over the following decades he played in several orchestras, including those of Francisco Canaro and Pedro Laurenz [3][4]. In 1947 he became head of the violin section of José Basso's new orchestra [1]. He later backed the singer Julio Sosa in Leopoldo Federico's orchestra and in 1973 joined the Sexteto Mayor [1]. He died on 21 July 1983 [1].

Early career

In 1927, at the age of fifteen, Mise played in Cayetano Puglisi's sextet at the Paramount cinema and made recordings for Victor [1].

One source records him playing in Francisco Canaro's orchestra in 1929 [3]. On 5 December 1930 he accompanied four Carlos Gardel recordings together with Francisco Canaro's musicians [1].

With Pedro Laurenz

In 1936 Mise joined Pedro Laurenz's orchestra at the Confitería Richmond, where he replaced Alfredo Gobbi [1]. On 24 September 1937 he played on Laurenz's first record for Victor, which paired Arrabal and Abandono [1].

He is also listed as a member of Laurenz's orchestra in 1940 [4]. In 1943 he was still with Laurenz, appearing with the orchestra on Radio Belgrano and at the Dancing Ocean [2].

With José Basso

In 1947 Mise became head of the violin section of José Basso's new orchestra [1]. With Basso he performed on Radio Belgrano and at the café Marzotto [1]. In 1955 he was dismissed from Basso's orchestra over union matters [1].

Later years

Mise spent several years backing the singer Julio Sosa in Leopoldo Federico's orchestra [1]. This period ended in 1964 with Sosa's death [1].

In 1973 Mise joined the Sexteto Mayor [1]. He died on 21 July 1983 [1].
