Luis Visca

Luis Visca (born 19 June 1903, died 22 June 1968 in Buenos Aires) was a tango musician and composer [1][7]. He was among the pianists of Juan D'Arienzo's orchestra [8]. His compositions include Compadrón and Muñeca brava, both with lyrics by Cadícamo, as well as Yo también and the vals Quién será [4][5][6].

Luis Visca was born on 19 June 1903 [1]. He made his professional debut in 1924 at the Cine Colón on Avenida Entre Ríos [2]. He died in Buenos Aires on 22 June 1968 [7].

Visca's career was closely linked to Juan D'Arienzo. He joined the D'Arienzo-Visca-Mazzeo orchestra in 1926 [3]. A history of the Orquesta Típica Juan D'Arienzo names him among the pianists who alternated at the piano in that orchestra [8]. Sources give different dates for his time with D'Arienzo, and he is also recorded as playing in the orchestra in 1935 and leaving it in December of that year [3][8][9].

As a composer, Visca wrote Compadrón, with words by Cadícamo, which was first played by Aieta's orchestra at the Bar Germinal and recorded by Gardel on 6 October 1927 [4]. Muñeca brava, also with Cadícamo, appeared in 1929 [5]. In 1940 he wrote Yo también and the vals Quién será with Luis Rubistein [6]. Music credits also list him as the composer of No me lo digas and Barajando recuerdos [10].

In 1926 Visca joined the D'Arienzo-Visca-Mazzeo orchestra, an ensemble whose name included his own [3]. A separate source records him playing in Juan D'Arienzo's orchestra from 1928 to 1929 [8]. The sources differ on when his association with D'Arienzo began: one gives 1926 for the D'Arienzo-Visca-Mazzeo orchestra, while the other gives 1928-1929 for the D'Arienzo orchestra [3][8]. The history of the Orquesta Típica Juan D'Arienzo lists Visca alongside Nicolás Vaccaro, Juan Carlos Howard and Alfonso Lacueva as musicians who alternated at the piano [8].
