Antonio Rodio

Antonio Rodio led a tango orchestra that debuted on Radio Splendid in 1941 with singers Alberto Serna and Mario Corrales, and recorded 16 sides for Odeon between 1943 and 1944. [1] Before leading his own orchestra he played with Carlos Marcucci, Pedro Maffia and Roberto Maida, and he later settled in Chile, where he died in Viña del Mar in 1980. [1]

Antonio Rodio was born on 25 January 1904, according to one source. [2] His career is documented from 1923, when he played in Carlos Marcucci's quartet on Radio Sud América. [1]

During the late 1920s and the 1930s he recorded and performed with several figures and ensembles. These included Enrique Delfino, Pedro Maffia, Carlos Gardel and Rodolfo Biagi, Francisco Fiorentino, and the orchestra of Roberto Maida directed by Argentino Galván. [1]

In 1941 Rodio debuted his own orchestra on Radio Splendid, with Alberto Serna and Mario Corrales as singers. [1] The orchestra began recording for Odeon in 1943 and made 16 sides through 1944. [1] In 1945 Rodio left on an American tour with Miguel Caló's orchestra and stayed on in Chile. [1] He returned to Chile in 1949 with Gabriel Clausi's orchestra, playing the Viña del Mar casino, and then settled there. [1] He died in Viña del Mar in 1980. [1]
