Ernesto Franco
Ernesto Franco, born on 1 February 1929, was a bandoneonist who played in several tango orchestras, including those of Osmar Maderna, Alfredo De Angelis and Juan D'Arienzo, and later led an orchestra under his own name [4][1]. He died in Buenos Aires on 24 April 2021 [3].
Ernesto Franco was born on 1 February 1929 [4]. His career as a performer, as documented, began in 1947, when he debuted in Elvino Vardaro's orchestra [1].
Over the following decade he played in the orchestras of Osmar Maderna, Roberto Caló and Alfredo De Angelis, serving as first bandoneon in De Angelis's orchestra from 1953 until late 1957 [1]. In 1954 he directed the orchestra on Roberto Rufino's recordings of Lo siento en el alma and Mi pobre novia for the Orfeo label [2].
From 1958 he was a member of Juan D'Arienzo's orchestra, with which he toured Japan in 1968 and 1970, and he remained until that orchestra ended on 14 January 1976 [1]. In 1996 he released a CD with his own orchestra on Forever Music [1]. A documentary, Ernesto Franco, bandoneón y compás, was released in 2002, and a concert marking his 90th birthday was held at the Usina del Arte on 18 August 2019 [3].
