Ruben Veliz

Ruben Veliz is a tango dancer who has performed mainly as part of a couple with Sabrina Veliz [1][3][4]. His documented career runs from a 1998 US stage premiere through festival performances in 2023 [1][3]. It includes stage productions, a book and appearances in Buenos Aires and abroad [1][2].

Ruben Veliz is a tango dancer [4]. Much of his documented activity took place as one half of the couple Sabrina and Ruben Veliz [1][3]. A video listing records Sabrina Veliz among his dance partners [4]. The couple's own website gives a year-by-year account of their work [1].

That account begins in 1998, when the couple were the lead couple of Milonga Boulevard by the Nueva Compañía Tangueros at its US premiere [1]. It continues through stage works, international engagements and a book published in 2014 [1]. The website marked their 20 years with tango in 2017 and their 25th anniversary in 2022 [1].

Other sources document individual performances. These include a 2011 appearance at a Fiesta X at La Viruta [2] and a 2023 performance at a festival in Porto [3].

Career

In 1998 the couple were the lead couple of Milonga Boulevard, a production of the Nueva Compañía Tangueros, at its US premiere [1].

The couple's website states that in 2005 they were the only foreign artists invited to the 25th jubilee of Queen Beatrix in the Netherlands [1].

In 2008, according to the same source, the couple created 'Last Round' for the Amsterdam Sinfonietta [1]. That year they also directed 'Radio Latina', a production that toured China [1].

In 2014 the couple published the book 'Secretos del abrazo' [1]. In December of that year they were guest artists at Mar del Plata Vive Tango [1].

Performances

On 23 August 2011 the couple danced at a Fiesta X at La Viruta [2]. The source's title lists the orchestra of Mariano Bujacich for that evening, with Claudio and Melina also dancing [2].

In 2023 Sabrina and Ruben Veliz performed at the festival in Porto [3]. A recording dated 22 April shows them dancing to 'Milonga Para As Missões' at FI Tango Porto 2023 [3].

A video listing records the following dancers as partners of Ruben Veliz [4]:

- Sabrina Veliz [4] - Mariano Chicho Frúmboli [4] - Magdalena Gutiérrez [4] - Georgia Priskou [4] - Alicia Pons [4] - Ornella Simonetto [4] - Esther Malagrino [4]

The same listing also records an entry titled "por Sabrina" as a partner [4]. The dossier does not explain this entry, and its relation to Sabrina Veliz is unclear [4].
