Centrum · Sloten
On 16 February 1914 a Dutch newspaper reported that the dancing master Maurice Polak had shown, with his female pupils, the real, official tango as it is danced on stage and in a salon; it was very measured and stiff.1
By 26 March 1914 the papers wrote that Fräulein Grassau and Herr Manzano danced the tango at the Rembrandt-Theater, and that Miss Davids and Mr De Haas danced it at the Hollandsche Schouwburg.2 On 4 April a paper noted that the dance was now being shown in four, five, six theatres.3
On 22 December 1914, at a military performance in Sloten, near Amsterdam, the "tango dance" was struck from the programme by the police in the hall, on the mayor's order.4
